Vascular spasm in cat cerebral cortex following ischemia.
The reaction of brain parenchymal vessels in areas of no-reflow following ischemia in cats was evaluated. A method was devised by which brain biopsies following ischemia were quickly frozen at -170 degrees C, sections were cut and stained and vessel internal and external diameter measured. Vessels in the no-reflow areas had smaller internal and external diameters and thicker walls when compared...
متن کاملA model for experimental cerebral arterial spasm.
A Model for Experimental Cerebral A rterial Spasm • Vasospasm of the basilar artery of the dog was induced by subarachnoid injection of arterial blood through the cisterna magna. Cerebral angiography was employed to evaluate quantitative assessment of the spasm. Chronic vasospasm was successfully induced in 100% of surviving dogs. Biphasic vasoconstriction was observed. The acute phase occurred...

Papaverine Hydrochloride and Experimental Hemorrhagic Cerebral A rterial Spasm • Chronic hemorrhagic spasm of the basilar artery was produced in beagle dogs by introducing blood into the cisterna magna. Spasm was evaluated by means of vertebral angiography. Papaverine hydrochloride was administered intravenously, intracisternally as well as intra-arterially. The intracisternal route was the mor...
متن کاملSelf-regulation of spasm and spasticity in cerebral palsy.
Four young adult cerebral palsied subjects with a mixture of spasticity and athetosis attended an experimental reflex training program for three one-hour sessions each week over an 18 month period. During each session on-line measures of contraction level and tonic stretch reflex sensitivity from the biceps brachii muscle were shown to the subject on meter displays. Subjects were asked to attem...
متن کاملA model for spasm of the anterior cerebral artery.
A model for production of spasm of the anterior cerebral artery in primates is presented. The model consists of injection of 0.35 cc of fresh blood into the chiasmatic cistern through the optic canal after orbital exenteration. Clinical and angiographical follow-up is possible. The clinical appraisal of acute and chronic changes can be accomplished in the awake animal.
